Why Volunteer In Africa?
Africa is one of the most popular destinations for volunteers abroad, and for good reason. It’s huge, with a young, energetic and diverse population. However, it is still developing many aspects of its economy and infrastructure, especially in areas like education and healthcare.
As with all of our projects, we select communities that need extra support. So, you can be sure that your contribution adds value.
When you volunteer in Africa, you can use your skills, and work directly with local people towards long-term goals, in projects such as:
Is Volunteering In Africa Safe?
We only work in the safest countries and locations in Africa, which means that you can really get stuck into making a positive change in the local community.
All of our African projects are fully compliant with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector. We also have local staff available to support 24/7.
Is This For Me?
When Volunteering abroad, you'll travel and dedicate your time and skills to making a positive impact in areas like education, healthcare, or environmental conservation.
If you're 15+ and ready to contribute to communities in Africa, our volunteering trips are your ticket to a life-changing journey.
However, there’s no upper age limit! We believe you’re never too old to do volunteer work in Africa (in fact, the more experience you have, the more benefit you could provide) - which is why we run Grown Up Specials for participants over 50 years of age.
Each project has individual requirements, however, if you're passionate, open to new challenges, and a global thinker — then volunteering abroad is calling your name.
Can I Volunteer In Africa For Free?
We want you to have an experience abroad that is safe and impactful but this isn't possible without adequate funding.
That's why we charge a fee for our volunteer projects. This covers:
- Three meals a day / drinking water
- Collection from the airport on arrival and a ride back when you leave
- A place to stay
- Transport to and from your project
- Training and workshops
- Project materials
- Regular social events and community activities
- In-country support and 24-hour back-up from our team of full-time local staff
- And much more!
We’re an independent organization, and we don't receive funding from governments, other companies, or our partner organizations. So by charging a fee, we can provide sustainable, long-term assistance to people or causes in need, all across the globe. Read more about why we charge a fee.
All of our projects only require an initial deposit of £195 when you book. This comes off the total price and allows us to confirm your place. The rest is then due 3 months before you start.

I would recommend this experience without a doubt and to those waiting with anticipation to set off, I say: make the most of it and don’t hold back. Mary S, Childcare & Community Work In Ghana
"I am extremely proud to have been part of a group that helped to remove a whopping 47 snares in one anti-poaching activity.
Knowing it may prevent another animal from suffering like this makes me feel like we achieved something." Clayre B, African Bushveld Conservation in Botswana
"My time in Ghana was, without a doubt, one of the best experiences of my life. The Ghanaian people are some of the friendliest people I’ve ever come across.
