A Public Health internship abroad is a way for you to support community healthcare and gain practical experience at the same time. You’ll deepen your understanding of local healthcare practices, as well as broader medical issues, while actively helping others.

You can complete your international health internship in local clinics, community centres, or schools. You’ll get involved by doing health checks and educational talks during community outreaches in disadvantaged, rural areas. In some cases, you’ll do home visits.

Is a Public Health internship abroad right for me?

If you’re looking to gain hands-on public health work experience and learn more about local and global health issues, then these internships are ideal for you. We have options to suit a range of skills levels, whether you’re just starting out, or wanting to further your career and broaden your horizons.

Many of our interns don’t have previous experience in their chosen field, so you can start at a level you’re comfortable with. During your time abroad, you will be well supported by your local colleagues, as well as our Projects Abroad staff. As you work on outreaches and support local communities, you’ll be learning and working under the supervision of medical professionals.

Recording our work in a secure database

We created a Global Impact Database so we can track the positive impact our projects have. This is a secure and anonymous database that we use to identify specific areas of need. It allows us to use data to shape medical outreaches and health awareness programmes. We can also monitor individuals we see often, report our results, and collect data for research. All of this work is guided by our Management Plans.

Real work with trained professionals

On our internships, you’ll work alongside real healthcare professionals. You can observe them in their everyday work, ask questions and hear more about their experiences. You’re likely to get more insights into the frontline of medical care than in your home country.

A tailored approach

We are often able to tailor your internship to your interests. You can work in more than one department or focus on one particular area, or experience outreach work in the local community.
